Based on the Tupac Shakur song, “Friend Like Me” is a dramatic story detailing the bond of friendship. Dee and Joe have been best friends since their early teens. But when Joe’s mother marries a wealthy doctor and Dee’s mother dies of cancer, they are immediately shifted into vastly different lifestyles.
Joe is now a rich college student who enjoys any pleasure he desires, while Dee struggles daily to work and support his two younger sisters. But even with different turns of fortune, the two remain faithful friends.
That friendship becomes challenged when Dee loses his job and is in danger of having his sisters taken away from him. When he nears a mental breakdown, Joe considers what more can be done to help his friend. When Dee asks Joe to help him to commit an armed robbery in a last ditch effort to save his family, Joe silently wonders, “How far does friendship go?” The choice he makes leads to a stunning conclusion that will leave you emotionally torn.
