This book contains all rondel dagger 23 plays from the Augsburg tradition. Part 1 covers the core of the Augsburg system, first written down in the Bauman Fechtbuch. Formally known as Codex Wallerstein, this text was anonymously composed in 1470. Over 80 years later, another anonymous author added new illustrations and 9 additional plays in what we now call the Rast Fechtbuch.
Unlike most fencing manuals of the time, these techniques were primarily designed for self-defense. Of the 23 plays, only one is written from the perspective of the aggressor. Most are flexible, allowing the defender to choose to end the engagement with a disarm, throw, joint break, or stab wound.
As with other Scholars of Alcala drill books, the plays include step-by-step instructions, diagrams, and commentary to help you understand the material. Also included is a table of plays, organized by attack and counter.
This edition is coil bound so that it lays flat and can easily be held with one hand while teaching.
