(Excerpt from Chapter 1 - Introduction)...Lo and behold, we hear keys jingling outside the door. Our faces were gripped with frozen fear and terrified anticipation. This could only be mom coming home hours early from work. We all had to be thinking “Of all days, why this day!?! Why is she home early on the one day we royally misbehave?”. Our bodies were paralyzed. We sat in the center of the floor waiting on mom’s reaction. When she opened the door, she was shocked too. Her surprise quickly turned to anger and I knew I was in some serious trouble. Eric ran for dear life out the door and down the 16 flights of stairs to freedom.
