After losing both parents, college student Jeni Teal struggles to develop a life as a conservation officer in her beloved hometown. While starting her internship, she discovers her uncle is guarding a secret in the creek below his home. There lies a spot where reality never fully formed. It is a gateway for malformed creatures never meant to roam this world. With every life it traps and devours, it grows like an untreated wound. She learns this anomaly drains life from vagabonds and hunters passing by; turning them into mindless slaves who gather fodder for its fathomless appetite. As the portal grows, larger misshapen creatures escape. While battling her less than human sister-in-law over a baby-sitting schedule for her traumatized little sister, Jeni confronts a world of personal stress and supernatural terrors few have seen and survived.
