Paul had heard of the faith of the Roman Christians, both Jewish and Gentile converts. Some are highly commended by Paul for their staunch beliefs. The first chapter especially has a very strong application today. Paul gives more than simple text - he includes some good theological matter to underpin the teachings of apostles or other disciples who had visited Rome.
