The Awakening

The Awakening is a novel by the American author Kate Chopin, published in 1899. It is considered a landmark work of early feminism and American Naturalism. The novel generated considerable controversy upon its release due to its frank depiction of female desire, marital infidelity, and a woman's refusal to conform to the societal expectations of motherhood and domesticity in the late 19th century.
