A class project is something that entails field work and maybe even makes it to the walls of a school. This book is the documentation of something more than a school project surrounding marine biology, but beyond that it is the scientific makeup of the coasts of San Diego – not from the perspectives of scientists in a lab but opportunistic and curious students experiencing the world hands-on. Welcome along our journey across the coast of San Diego – starting from Oceanside Pier all the way down to San Diego bay. My name is Katelyn Slater. The 11th grade class of 2027 at High Tech High North County has worked to uncover the secrets of the beach: the organisms, the human impacts, the ecosystems, and the perspectives of those visiting. This book encapsulates not only our experience through this project, as we have hopped around North County, but also our findings within our research. From creative, cinematic photography to descriptive nature writing, this book offers various new perspectives on our beaches, yet is not formatted in a demanding order; feel free to “hop” around!
