This bibliography is an indispensable reference work for anyone interested in Ephrem the Syrian, the greatest Christian poet of the first millennium. It contains more than 2500 bibliographical entries spread over four lists: editions first and then titles dealing with Ephrem exclusively, partly and incidentally. This central part is preceded by the Classification of the Titles, that constitutes the systematic key to those four lists. It contains a general bibliography, a section that deals with biographical materials, an overview of all editions of Ephrem’s works in Syriac and of all ancient translations. Next comes a detailed overview of all texts attributed to Ephrem: not only different kinds of Syriac texts, but also many Greek texts and a few Latin texts as well. The last two sections give an overview of both studies and modern translations. At the end of the bibliography, six appendices give a useful overview of the contents of the major old editions.
