With the Iron Curtain in tatters, William Hughes, psychologist, decides that the time is ripe to take a holiday in Poland. He returns with an unusual souvenir - a girl who has been tortured and abused by a gang of criminals. As the months pass, he finds himself falling in love with his purchase, but the obstacles to a happy ending are as formidable as they are unexpected. Can William and the girl he bought find happiness or will real life ultimately prove too much?
