The Talking Stick has been used for centuries as a ceremonial item by Native Americans during council meetings. Often decorated with feathers, crystals, or beads, the Talking Stick is believed to hold the Sacred power of words. Takoda is a Sioux name meaning "a friend to everyone." In this short story, Takoda the Talking Stick befriends a young boy who feels unheard by others. This is only the beginning of a series of stories from "The Adventures of Takoda the Talking Stick." The overriding moral of Takoda the Talking Stick is: It is much better to speak with kindness than to speak with disrespect for others.
