Our beautiful Arithmetic Notebook features cover artwork by 19th-century French painter Charles-François Daubigny. Inside are ¾-inch gridded pages and a title page where your student can write his or her name.
Gridded notebooks offer an ideal structure for written arithmetic work, helping students organize their numbers and symbols with clarity and care. A square grid encourages mathematical order, by aligning digits to make place value more visible, and helping equations stay neat and readable. For younger students especially, focus should be on mastering the mathematical concepts, rather than the mechanics of handwriting.
This notebook is designed to support a Charlotte Mason-inspired approach to arithmetic. Her philosophy emphasized habit training, neatness, and beauty in all schoolwork. The use of a square grid aligns naturally with these values and is recommended by the Charlotte Mason Elementary Arithmetic Series.
The ¾-inch grid is sized for beginning students, typically in first or second grade. As always, advance to smaller grids as the student gains confidence and control. With forty-six gridded pages, the notebook is ample for a year’s worth of arithmetic, without overwhelming an early learner. Pages lie flat for ease of use, and the clean, minimal interior supports the child’s attention without distraction.
