“Broken Emotion” is an expression of true teenage feelings through different situations and against different people. It began as a way to not keep feelings bottled up and has become a way of speaking to others. This book is a collection of poems over a four year period dealing with situations like abandonment, sexual abuse, feeling alone, self inflicted wounds, and more.
Each poem tells the story of the author or someone close to her; but more than that, each can also speak to the reader and create a story of their own. These poems show teenagers and adults alike about some of the problems young people face today. It is a very real description of a teenager’s feelings when facing such hardships.
Many teenagers today feel depressed and alone. The point of “Broken Emotion” is to show that there are many people who feel the same way. Signs of this is not always evident, and many teenagers can go on for years pretending they are “perfect.”
