A historical fictional story of my family set within a true, sad tragedy. A mother’s narrative describes a distressing time in the lives of two of her sons, set against a vivid backdrop of the western plains and the Badlands. The central theme of her story focuses on the author’s grandfather, John, and his brother, James, who were taken to an off-reservation Indian boarding school, Haskell, in Lawrence, Kansas. The book explores their agonizing experiences at the school, including an escape.
