Albert Boyce Wilson (1922-2000) and was known variously as Bert, Young Bert, or Flip. He was born in Dunedin and as a young man embarked on his first career while serving overseas with the New Zealand Army. Within a decade he had served as a gunner and artillery instructor in three very different theatres during the course of two wars. Bert’s civilian career was from middle age with the public service. His academic and sporting skills along with his wide-ranging interests and sense of humour ensured that he became a well-known character not only in the military but also around his hometown of Dunedin.
