The book is a recounting of the great debates between the proponents of downstream fishing versus upstream and wet fly versus dry. The first chapter is a concise history of trout fishing, followed by chapters about Halford, the doyan of the dry fly and Skues the proposer of nymph (essentially wet fly) in relation to the chalk streams of southern England. The final chapter attempts to resolve these disputes and proposes a new Fly Fisherman's Code.
