De Vere - Edward, a man weighed down, stifled by honour and duty, receives a previously unknown freedom when he is encouraged to write for a group of players in London. Injected with friendship, love, infidelity, comedy and pathos, the play gives an excellent insight into the impetuous and wilful boy who became Lord High Chamberlain of England and offers, through fiction, one answer to a long-asked question. Could he have been the real author of the plays attributed to William Shakespeare?
