Six Generations on an Ohio Farm
The Legacy of Abraham and Isabel Dilley
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
This is the story of Abraham Dilley’s farm and the six generations of family who have faithfully tended to it. Abraham Dilley, born in Guernsey County, Ohio, in 1815, faced early hardships, including losing both parents by 1834. Despite these challenges, he found love and married Isabel Shaw in 1838. By 1850, the couple and their children had settled in Washington County, Ohio.
Abraham was a man of vision and enterprise. In 1862, he capitalized on the burgeoning oil industry by selling oil leases, significantly boosting the family’s finances. However, the Civil War cast a shadow over their lives, claiming the life of their son, Clinton.
In 1865, seeking a fresh start and a place to put down deeper roots, Abraham and Isabel purchased a farm in Blue Rock, Muskingum County, Ohio. This farm would become the heart and soul of the Dilley family for generations to come. Their son Tobias took the reins of the farm after Abraham’s death in 1876, ensuring that the legacy of hard work and dedication continued.
Through the years, Tobias and his descendants have nurtured the farm, passing it down from one generation to the next. Each generation has added its chapter to the farm’s rich history, weathering storms, celebrating bountiful harvests, and preserving the family’s heritage. Today, the Dilley farm is a testament to the enduring spirit of family and the deep roots that bind them to the land.
