This book is a graphical colour-journey through the coastal environment of Sand Bay, Somerset, UK. Our fragile environment is well represented by this coastal space, which is particularly threatened by rising sea levels and the increasingly erratic weather patterns attributed to global warming and human activity. I have focused much of my recent artistic practice on this site, finding a rich source of inspiration at many levels. Issues of environmental stewardship and responsibility lie alongside complex existential and personal metaphor. The pages include colour palettes digitally “tasted” from the photo-samples of my actual journey, and then moves further into a metaphorical space. The realms of synaesthesia, painting with words and the concept of experiencing the opposite form a part of this work. “Tasting the Palette” has no final pages – the positive and negative colour journeys simply coalesce in a central space. Colour photographs with associated graphics and reflective text.
