This book is a graphical walk along a line between the tides on the beach at Sand Bay, Somerset, UK: observing and recording the natural lines which present and uniting optical imagery with the perceptions of my mind’s eye. While, on the same journey - scanning the whole space from sky, on through land, to sea and back to sky - lines of thought and awareness transform into the written line. Our fragile environment is well represented by this coastal space, which is particularly threatened by rising sea levels and the increasingly erratic weather patterns attributed to global warming and human activity. I have focused much of my recent artistic practice on this site, finding a rich source of inspiration at many levels. Issues of environmental stewardship and responsibility lie alongside complex existential and personal metaphor. Black and white photographic images with associated ink line abstract sketches and reflective text.
