Lothar Patten was a much loved figure in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. In the last years of his life, he transformed from a homeless man living at the Crossroads shelter into a well-loved man about town, and even a movie star. Lothar met most of the 2004 presidential election candidates and more, including Ted Danson, James Carville, and George Stephanopoulos.
Lothar died in 2008 but the love he brought to Portsmouth, New Hampshire in his everyday travels is shown as he slowly rises to a low-level but international fame.
Lothar's diary has been on one computer or another for the last few years. Today is the day I show it to the world.
Lothar's writing style would probably be considered "outsider". Yet he made the typewriter he received from Operation Blessing his own voice. What you will read is a daily gratitude for life, and a series of small triumphs and happinesses. If you would like to read something happy for a change, look no more.
