The news began to circulate in December 1299 according to which in the year of the centenary of visitors to the basilica of St. Peter would receive the "forgiveness of sins." The huge influx of pilgrims to Rome led Boniface VIII to grant an indulgence throughout the year 1300 and from that moment on, every hundred years. Among the pilgrims of that first Jubilee: Cimabue, Giotto, Dante, who has preserved memory in some verses of the Canto XXXI of Paradise of the "Divine Comedy".
The first Jubilee was proclaimed by Pope Boniface VIII in 1300 and dedicated to the visitors of the basilica of San Pietro "mater of all the churches" and home of the martyrdom of the Apostle Peter.
Jubilee is the name of the law that we track in Leviticus 25.8 to 17. This law requires that after 49 years, each return to the ownership of their land and sold slaves from being released into the wild, because you are only servants of Javhè.
