Have you ever thought about what’s living right along the shoreline, just beneath the surface of the water? The California coast is full of life that often goes unnoticed, from tide pool organisms to shorebirds, small marine creatures, and even microscopic life within algae. During my time in biology, I explored this hidden world by studying the shore and connecting with people who shared their own experiences with the ocean. In this book, I focus on how much life exists at the edge of the ocean and what we can learn from it. My goal is to show the value of slowing down, observing, and truly engaging with the natural world. This book is written by a student for anyone interested in exploring nature, whether you’re experienced or just beginning to discover the life found along the coast.
