After troops attacked their sanctuary in Utah, they escape and head northward to Idaho, where they hear there are dozens of Free communities. They again find some land to homestead in this area that has been all but abandoned for fear of the Confederacy to the west. They build a thriving community, and even take in sixty refugees from Thermopolis. Everything is going well, except for one thing. Jenny wants to explore the Confederacy, and Danny wants her to stay home. Jenny leaves home with her dog, Maggie, and embarks on a risky and interesting journey of exploration.
