Four Horsemen - Thesis

The Four Horsemen have been depicted artistically countless times since they were introduced during the 1st Century. Examples can be found in medieval and contemporary art alike. This project re-imagines the signs of the Apocalypse as part of an installation that seeks to connect video art to Renaissance painting.
By allowing the computer to craft the final edit of the animation and by programming it to select clips at random from a repository of vignettes, I have created an animation without beginning or end and put the viewer in control of when the story starts and ends. Like painting, there is no prescribed time frame for viewing and no predetermined order for viewing the animations. The viewer is now forced to actively engage the monitors, to move about, and to create his or her own stories, in the same way that one would when viewing a painting.
