ALICE is the story of a young girl growing up during the Great Depression. After her mother's untimely death, Alice and her father (Papa) have to move from place to place to find somewhere to live because the medical bills for her mother's illness had wiped out their savings. They encounter many rough spots along their journey. For awhile Alice must live with a woman who beats her and later with a stepmother who is an alcoholic. But she has some good times too, like making snow ice cream and living with her sisters out in the country. This is a story of struggle, of overcoming obstacles, and hanging together as a family during difficult times. It is a story of great love too.
