Walls of art galleries are both significant and ignored. They are an important part of the design and concept of the gallery but are often almost not perceived by the viewing public. This book gives attention to these intervals, the spaces between the works of art. The pauses where ideas develop.
Each leaf of the book represents a room in Tate Britain’s Historic and Modern British Art collection galleries (Room 1 Exiles and Dynasties 1545-1640 to Room 15 International Modern 1930-1940), which were rehung in 2023. Utilizing information provided by Tate each leaf gives the name of the room, the title of a selection works hung in that gallery, the paint name or composite code (unfortunately few are named colours) and a description of the colour. Turning the page will convey the reader to the next room.
Made for AMBruno's 2024 project, Intervals.
