THE ALPHA INITIATIVE: MAKING A DIFFERENCE ONE STUDENT AT A TIME

One of the key issues facing society today is the level of education of its citizens. The nation's dropout rate continues to be a challenge when developing educated, contributing members of society. Because of the proximity of El Paso, Texas to the United States border, additional challenges emerge which make the provision of a world-class education extremely complex. The El Paso Independent School District has developed an innovative approach to Drop Out Prevention and Recovery through Attendance Increase. This approach is called The Alpha Initiative. Through its highly trained staff, this initiative, authored by Mark Emanuel Mendoza, the district's Director for Texas Title I Priority Schools, employs Barrier Removal at the family level in order to facilite students' ability to benefit from the opportunities brought forth by a world-class educational system. This book provides a close look at drop out prevention through systemic reform.
