Following The Equator

Published in 1897 by The American Publishing Company, Following the Equator was Twain's sixth travelogue. Subtitled A Journey Around the World, the trip was organised as a lecture tour by Twain in an effort to pay back creditors following his declaration of bankruptcy. Whilst the book as conceived was a work of non-fiction, Twain included a selection of short fiction pieces typically poking fun at real historical characters.
