Christie set out to build himself a place where he would be safe. He hadn’t expected to collect five people who had hidden their own differences to the rest of humanity since puberty while he had been forced to live in the public eye, envied and hated in equal measure. He had come to curse the secondary Talent that had shaped his life – discovering that he didn’t know how to live like a real man when it didn’t work came as a shock. His fellow freaks could accept each other’s Talents and become a family; older and more scarred by his past it might be too late for him but that didn’t stop him aching to be part of it. Even if he could learn to step out from behind his protective wall would they ever let him be one of them? Especially when it looked like his past might be a threat to everyone’s safety.
