Musician's Dictionary Volume I
Melodic Vocabulary
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Melody is one of the fundamental building blocks of music. Regardless of instrument, style, or
genre, the ability to recognise, perform, and create melodic ideas is an essential musical skill.
This book presents a collection of scale patterns derived from the major scale. Each pattern
represents a unique ordering of notes that may be used for technical practice, sight-reading, ear
training, improvisation, composition, or general musicianship development.
The exercises are intentionally presented in a simple and consistent format. Rather than
providing extensive instructions or prescribed methods of practice, this book is designed to serve
as a reference resource from which musicians can develop their own exercises, routines, and
creative applications.
Although the patterns are presented as individual exercises, they should not be viewed as fixed
musical statements. They are best thought of as melodic building blocks that may be expanded,
modified, combined, transposed, and developed in countless ways.
Whether used as a daily technical study, a source of melodic vocabulary, or a springboard for
creative exploration, the goal of this book is to encourage fluency in melodic thinking and
movement.
