Is he a war-torn veteran or a sinful criminal? William Jackson, raised on a farm and drafted into WWI as an ambulance driver, finds himself in prohibition-era Boston where he pursues an education at a prestigious university. In this new environment, he is confused by many things: a new culture, an uncertain future, but most importantly, his identity. William wrestles with his own mind to find his past and to disentangle his reality. Life is normal in Boston, but things feel off. Through a series of unfortunate events, he finds himself tangled in a web of crime and sinister acts, meeting manipulative mentors and evil acquaintances on the way. William, burdened by the traumas of his past, struggles to find a purpose, but he always seeks a resolve, a footing of reality. William is a strange man in a city he doesn't know or belong to, validating his familiarity and reality through a path of crime and romance, both of which he would come to regret. Are his actions or perceptions real, or are they only a refraction from his Mens Rea?
