Living With Dementia
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Meika Tucker gives us an authentic version of everyday life when living with a loved one newly diagnosed with dementia. Meika also brings to light the things we don't always want to think about when it comes to how it honestly makes us feel inside as caregivers as well as the other side of this affliction.
Meika opens our minds to our loved one's personal fears and fights to stay independent. Losing control of one's ability to function on a basic level as if to be a toddler again and the confusion of lost memories and unrecognizable faces can be horrifying. Meika Tucker opens the window to view how it could be for not only the afflicted, but the entire family.
Ana'bea Tilly, a woman in her eighties with cancer is also diagnosed with dementia but refuses to let her family know. However, the entire family already knows due to the onset of her strange and unusual behavior. Her daughter Lizzy struggles to break down the barriers of communication between the two of them before it's too late to communicate clearly. A lot of hurt feelings from years of battling against each other makes a difficult situation mentally straining. Ana'bea knows she needs her youngest daughter at her side but is afraid of putting her welfare in someone else's hands regardless of who that may be. Ana'bea is all about manipulation, secrets and control over family that she thinks she still has. Ana'bea Tilly has no plans on giving up her independence without a fight.
