After a disputed sighting on the salt-marsh, Jonny Stamper and his mate, Dinners, find themselves at the centre of a provincial rumour mill. They are reluctantly swept along on a wave of small-town indignation. Jonny is dragged into the fight to save yet another local factory from closure brought on by the proposed development of a new, state-of-the-art, ultra-modern, energy-from-waste super-incinerator, which is set to dominate the town’s skyline. He takes on the good fight fuelled by a newly-found sense of good citizenship, or could it be a loathing for his Mum’s new boyfriend? Or possibly the wish to save the river-island nature reserve? Or maybe it’s just because he fancies a couple of the girls. Acid Town is a story of niavety, apathy, contradiction, double standards and broken promises.
