Absence of Evidence

The independent Republic of Indonesia: independent from hundreds of years of Dutch colonial rule. The Dutch Government formally recognised Indonesian sovereignty on 27 December 1949. This four-year struggle went hand in hand with terrible violence, and became a turning point in modern Indonesian history. This was the world of Colonel Ulya Ginting, a ruthless supporter of the Revolution, and Yogyakarta, where the mysterious Elke Hanish operated. The DEi was the passion of Captain Pieter van Arkel, a Dutch military police officer sent to Java during a police action in early 1947 to facilitate the re-establishment of the Dutch colony. Two very accomplished intelligence officers, Captain John O'Neill and Padre Allo Logan are sent on assignment by the Australian Government to maintain peace with a blend of diplomacy and force, but their involvement leaves them with terrible memories, secrets that they cannot share, and a windfall that only one of them will receive.
