The Complete Golden Age Black Owl: Volume 2 (PB)
Midcentury Comics #1660-PB: The Dark Night-Owl Teams Up with Yank and Doodle! (A Gwandanaland Publication)
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
In Volume 1 of their adventures THE BLACK OWL (Gwandanaland Comics #251) and YANK AND DOODLE (Gwandanaland Comics #2891) fight crime and the enemies of America separately --- and then beginning in Issue #34 they are team, one which lasts for 35 issues!
Many superheroes and crime-fighters were inspired by tragedy; for twins Rick and Dick Walters it was the murder of their mother at the hands of Hitler supporters. Too young to enlist, they put on the cape and mask and began their long career! The fought against Axis enemies and crime at home, and together they were an awesome team! The YANK AND DOOLE feature eventually took over as the starring and lead feature of Prize Comics, appearing on many covers, and running for 6 ½ years (August 1941 – March 1948)!
Like so many costumed crimefighters, Doug Danville was a wealthy playboy. Like so many heroes with a secret identity, his everyday persona is considered useless and shallow. For 33 issues of Prize Comics, THE BLACK OWL perseveres through these difficulties and fights to bring justice and honor to the streets of America. But that was Volume 1 – Starting with Prize Comics #34 Doug passes the job on to someone else when he enlisted in the military (perhaps to finally get some recognition for the work he was doing for the betterment of society). This new BLACK OWL teams up with YANK AND DOODLE – for a while keeping his identity a secret even from them, and a shocker it is, too!
