The Complete Humbug: Volume 1 (PB)
Midcentury Comics #1468-PB: The World Is Coming To An End, But In The Meantime, Read This For Laughs! (A Gwandanaland Publication)
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Harvey Kurtzman and some of the other top names in American humor ( Arnold Roth, Al Jaffee, Will Elder and Harry Chester) got together, pooled their funds ($6,500 in various amounts), and created HUMBUG, destined to be the greatest magazine of satire in the history of the country. Well, destiny can be fickle, because it only lasted 11 issues. As Kurtzman himself admitted, the better the magazine, quite often the worse it sells – and so this one had to be amazing! In truth, HUMBUG was a step above other humor mags of the day, because it was a little more satire than parody, a little more reality than ridiculous. Nothing was off limits but the subjects were handled in a way that skirted very close to the edge of the truth. The artwork included some of the top names of the day including Will Elder, Kurtzman, Wally Wood, Jack Davis, Al Jaffee and Arnold Roth. This short-lived magazine was a true satirical look at modern society and most of it is still applicable today! On top of all that – it's funny!
This book contain Issues #1-5. You will find #6-11 in Volume 2, or find them all in a Giant which contains all 11 issues. Although not designed as a full-color magazine, we are offering this series in both color and B&W formats to meet the tastes of all readers and collectors!
