It was the first true comic book experiment since the comic book itself – a bi-weekly magazine that cost only a nickel instead of the common dime that was plunked down on a monthly basis. The issues were smaller (36 pages instead of the standard 68) but at half the price and twice as often, it was hoped that readers would warm up to this new idea. After eight issues, Fawcett decided it didn't work --- BUT Nickel Comics nonetheless was a historic series, bringing the first appearances of Bulletman, and memorable characters such as The Red Gaucho, Warlock, The Arrow and more! Today this series would cost about $1000 in readable condition, and up to $15,000 in prime condition – well, Gwandanaland / Midcentury Comics has the complete collection on one great book, for a tiny fraction of that cost! NOTE: A few of the issues have what I call “dirty pages” - where the bottom of the page is darker than the top. This is usually due to uneven aging of the pages over decades.
