VOODAH was created by comic legend Matt Baker and debuted in Crown Comics #3. Baker himself bowed out of the series but VOODAH continued his jungle heroics through the rest of the Crown Comics run, ending with #19. Many people credit VOODAH for being the first black “Jungle Lord” - - but it is important to note that: 1) He was always white on the cover; 2) His skin was lightened with each issue so that by #6 he was your typical white jungle lord; and 3) Although he was colored dark in the first issue, his feature are not African, so it is possible that he was not intended by Baker to be dark-skinned and this was merely a colorist error. Regardless, VOODAH protected his people, fought savage beasts (including a dinosaur!) and saved scantily-clad women for 16 issues of Crown Comics – and Gwandanaland / Midcentury Comics has it all for you right here!
