In 1987 Hadrian's Wall became a World Heritage Site and English Heritage, who now manage the Wall on behalf of the UK Government describe it as "the most important monument built by the Romans in Britain."
In 2003 the Hadrian Wall Path was officially opened running from Wallsend on the East Coast of Great Britain to Bowness-on-Solway on the West coast.
