Shelter Pets: Celebrating 40 Years of Saving Lives at the SPCA of Wake County. Since 1967, the SPCA has been at work in the Greater Raleigh, NC area saving the lives of homeless animals. To celebrate their 40-year anniversary, they have published this heartwarming collection of over 100 portraits of homeless pets. These moving photographs remind us that we don’t have to look past our own backyard to find animals in need of rescuing and, if we work together, we have the power to save them.
