Beach Hoppers

Is the beach just a place to vacation or relax, or is it an ecosystem that is full of life that we often overlook? From the coast of Oceanside to San Diego, this book allows us to go over the hidden details of beach ecosystems, including the life found there, the composition of the sand, and the influence of human activity on these ecosystems. Through the few months of field work, research, and observations as students at High Tech High North County, we have studied these coastal areas closely to better understand what makes each beach location unique. This book goes over how beaches are more than just destinations; they are complex ecosystems that deserve attention and protection. As you read, you will discover observations, photos, and our own insights from different stops we have made across the coast of San Diego. The chapters do not have to be read in order. This book is made for any beach visitors, students, and anybody curious about the beauty and science of Southern California’s coastline!
