Architecture is a service, but whom does it serve? Homelessness, addiction, and poverty are very real issues that plague millions worldwide. Currently, architects have a very limited role in the rehabilitation of global poverty. This thesis focuses on a twelve-block case study in one of America’s dying cities, Detroit, MI. The only way to find true success is through a holistic approach that places the needs of the client at the forefront. In order to meet those needs, architects must set aside their ego and encourage a collaborative design process where all parties are given the opportunity to teach, learn, heal, grow, and partake in the shaping of our world.
