The story is introduced by two comic fairy godmothers, Lilly and Gelsey, who invite the audience to help magically bring the tale to life. Cinderella lives unhappily with her cruel stepmother Elizabeth and her vain, bullying stepsisters Annabelle and Isabella, who treat her as a servant. Her only friends are Buttons, a kind-hearted and cheeky young man, and his mother Molly, a warm but comically outspoken dame. In the village, Cinderella is constantly ordered about and humiliated by her stepfamily, while Buttons and Molly defend her and point out how unfairly she is treated. Meanwhile, Prince William, lonely and tired of royal life, dreams of finding true love. When he briefly meets Cinderella by chance, he is immediately captivated, but she is forced to run away before telling him her name. The Prince decides to host a grand ball, inviting everyone in the kingdom in the hope of finding the mysterious girl again. Elizabeth forbids Cinderella from attending and leaves her behind to clean the house while she and her daughters prepare for the event. Heartbroken, Cinderella is comforted by Lilly and Gelsey, who reveal themselves as her fairy godmothers. Using magic, they transform Cinderella into a beautiful princess, provide her with a carriage, and send her to the ball—with the warning that the spell will end at midnight. At the ball, Prince William instantly falls in love with Cinderella (who is humorously introduced under a fake name to protect her identity). They dance and share a magical evening, while comic chaos unfolds around them involving Dandini, Molly, and the stepsisters. As the clock strikes midnight, Cinderella flees, leaving behind a glass slipper. Determined to find her, the Prince sets out the next day to try the slipper on every eligible woman in the kingdom. Elizabeth pushes Annabelle and Isabella forward, but the slipper hilariously refuses to fit either of them. Cinderella finally steps forward, and the slipper fits perfectly. She reveals her true identity, and Prince William realizes she is the woman he fell in love with at the ball. The Prince proposes, Cinderella accepts, and despite the protests of her stepfamily, true love triumphs. The story concludes with a joyful royal wedding, comic reconciliation, and the traditional pantomime ending: everyone lives happily ever after.
