The Last Man

I didn't quite know how to respond. It was a fact I'd lived with since my parents' death four years ago, and a fact I'd often fooled myself into thinking I'd come to terms with. Hearing it put that way, in eight nonchalant words, made it startlingly more real than it already seemed.
