Call Back the Day

Call Back the Day is the creative expression of a lifetime spent studying family history, social issues, and politics. It tells the stories of two families and two races living together in central Alabama in the pivotal year prior to Pearl Harbor. Based on Olivia Pienezza Solomon’s childhood in rural Alabama, its central character is a first-grader whose life is spent divided between her town family in Salem, Alabama, and her rural farm family, whose relationships with other whites and blacks in the area define a now-lost but definitive era in American history.
