Golden Rules of Hermeneutics

Biblical hermeneutics is the systematic study of the principles and methods used in interpreting the biblical text. As a foundational discipline within theological studies, it enables believers to interpret, understand, and apply the teachings of Scripture with accuracy and responsibility. This field is concerned with the rules and approaches that guide a deeper and more nuanced engagement with the biblical text (Kaiser & Silva, 2007). The significance of biblical hermeneutics is clearly emphasized in 2 Timothy 2:15, which calls believers to handle Scripture with diligence and care: “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth” (NASB). The primary aim of hermeneutics is to provide a reliable framework for interpreting, understanding, and applying the biblical message in a faithful and contextually sound manner (Osborne, 2006). Through sound hermeneutical principles, believers grow in deeper knowledge of Scripture, leading to spiritual maturity and transformation.
