Ever since the "2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design" were published, building codes have been introduced that draw inspiration from, or directly incorporate, these standards. Despite this, there remains uncertainty about the precise legal obligations that must be met to satisfy such codes. The standards are divided into nine categories, based on the process of accessing and using facilities. In this class, our focus is on clarifying the key aspects of the standards related to accessible routes and pathways, specific requirements for spaces within facilities, and specially designed equipment and hardware for people with disabilities. We focus on creating accessibility for individuals with disabilities, to navigate buildings and utilize the various equipment and hardware located within.
