The Practical Monte

The Practical Monte is focused on the modern fencing practitioner, consolidating those important elements for the practice of Pedro Monte's fencing into a concise and readable format. This work includes the wrestling, dagger, pollaxe, spear, spadone, and sword in one hand sections of the Collectanea, a sweeping work which covers everything from the disposition and psychology of one's troops to the arms and armor design of the 15th century, all from the direct lived experience of a late 15th century military contractor. While wide-ranging and dense with information for the historian and practitioner alike, the Collectanea often lacks organization and clarity, which makes it a difficult text for the practices of fencing. This book bridges that gap for the casual reader, in a size and formatting appropriate to take into the fencing salle.
