About Michael Peres

Professor Michael Peres is an award-winning photo educator, author, and photographer. He joined the faculty of Rochester Institute of Technology in the fall of 1986 and has dedicated himself to inspiring generations of curious students and a being a leader in field of biomedical photographic communications for decades. Peres' expertise includes photomicrography as well as other bio-medical photographic applications. He has been actively publishing most of his career and his 10th book, Natural Science Imaging and Photography was released in 2021. He also served as the editor-in-chief of the Focal Encyclopedia of Photography - 4th edition. Over the last two decades, he has become one of the world’s leading snowflake photographers and his pictures have been published by Time, CNN, the Weather Channel, Mashable and others. He has presented more than 125 papers and imaging-related workshops all over the United States and in Sweden, Canada, Mexico, the UK, Austria, Tanzania, the Netherlands, Germany, India, and Australia. He is as one of the organizers of the Images from Science project exploring the interface of art and science and was awarded the RIT Eisenhart Award for Outstanding Teaching; the RIT Gitner Prize presented for outstanding contributions to the graphic arts (2X); the Louis B. Schmidt Award for lifetime contributions to the Life Science Communications, and a number of awards for his photomicrography from Nikon and Olympus.
