The Messerschmitt Me 262 jet is well documented by this author in his German Aircraft Industry & Production 1933-1945 published by Airlife/SAE 1998. In the new millennium only eight examples of what is now acknowledged as the first operational jet fighter in the world - probably ahead of its time in returning better performance than most of the Allied first generation jets such as the Gloster Meteor and Lockheed P-80 this publication gives brief historic details of each survivor and where they may be seen.
